North London Period Home Upgrade: Ultimate Heritage Flush Casement Windows & Heritage Doors
There’s something special about working on period-style homes in North London, the character, the proportions, the street presence. For this recent installation, a lovely customer wanted to keep the traditional look of timber joinery while benefiting from modern performance, security, and low maintenance. The result? A full Heritage style upgrade using our Ultimate Heritage Flush Casement Windows and Ultimate Heritage front door
If you’re searching for flush casement windows in North London (or “timber alternative” windows that still look authentic), this project is a great example of how you can respect the original style while dramatically improving comfort and efficiency.
Project overview:
• Ultimate Heritage Flush Casement Windows (period, timber-alternative styling)
• Ultimate Heritage Front Door (designed to match the home’s character)
Every choice was made to suit the property, from the woodgrain finishes through to the glass styles, hardware, and security features.
Ultimate Heritage Flush Casement Windows: traditional style, modern performance
Flush casement windows are a favourite for North London homes because they sit flat within the frame giving that classic, refined appearance similar to traditional timber windows. In this home, the windows delivered both the period look and the modern benefits you’d expect from a high-quality “timber-alternative” system.
Key window specification for the Traditional ‘timber-alternative’ period window:
• ‘A’ +8 Energy Rating
• 70mm outer frame
• White woodgrain finish
• Front door side window in Rosewood inside and out
• Genus timber-look joints
• 55mm Radlington external cills
• Concealed trickle vents
• Stainless steel hinges with fire escape and easy-clean function as standard
• Minster glass to front door side window and door backing glass
• Polished chrome standard handles
• Decorative replica lead design to front window fanlights
Why flush casement is ideal for period-style properties
For homeowners comparing “standard uPVC” to something more heritage-friendly, flush casements are often the sweet spot. They create clean sightlines, suit traditional elevations, and look “right” from the pavement, especially when paired with timber-look joints, decorative glass, and thoughtful finishing details.
Glass choices: privacy where needed, character where it counts
This project used two glass types to balance privacy, style, and light:
- Minster glass for the front door side window and door backing glass, a timeless textured finish that complements a heritage entrance beautifully.
- Decorative replica lead in the front window fanlights, giving that classic period detailing while keeping the window system modern and efficient.
Finishes & frames
White woodgrain and Rosewood were selected for a premium heritage feel. Colour and finish can make or break a heritage installation. Here, the customer selected:
- White woodgrain for the front windows. These are bright, clean, and classic.
- Rosewood inside and out for the front door (and the front door side window). A warm, rich look that creates a strong, traditional entrance.
- Woodgrain finishes add depth and realism, especially on homes where timber would traditionally have been used. It’s a great option for anyone wanting that “painted timber” feel with far lower upkeep.
Hardware & hinges: practical upgrades built in:
- The windows were fitted with stainless steel hinges that include: Fire escape capability (where required/appropriate) and easy-clean function as standard. This means safer, more practical day-to-day living, particularly useful on upper floors.
Ultimate Heritage Doors: security, style, and a strong first impression
The front door was chosen to match the heritage window style, creating a consistent look across the whole property. Whilst the windows stayed bright with white woodgrain, the front entrance became a standout feature in Rosewood. The Key door specification (as installed):
- ‘B’ Energy Rating
- 70mm deep outerframe
- Front door: Rosewood inside and out
- Genus timber-look joints
- 195mm midrail to front door
- Future decorative glass art for front door (Minster backing glass)
• 55mm Radlington external cills
• Butt hinges
• Black to front door
• 3-star high-security cylinders
• Front door: Heritage slam-shut lock with gold finger pulls (internal thumbturn), plus architectural letterplate and spyhole
A secure heritage entrance without compromising style. Security upgrades don’t have to look modern or bulky. With a heritage-appropriate design, quality cylinders, and robust locking, the door keeps the traditional look while giving homeowners the reassurance they want.
The finished result
- A true period look with flush casement styling and heritage detailing
- Strong improvements in energy performance (A+8 windows, B-rated doors)
- Enhanced security with modern locking and 3-star cylinders
- Thoughtful finishing touches, from glass selection to concealed vents and premium hardware
Most importantly, the customer now has a home that looks right for its style, while feeling warmer, quieter, and more secure day-to-day.
